I am a new player, just got into DUST, a few questions.
Welcome to New Eden!
Does the race of your suit conflict at all with the "race" of your weapons? AKA, is it sensible to laser rifles on a gallente suit?
No, you can use whatever weapon you want in any suit, as long as you meet the PG and CPU requirements for it.
I have played around for quite a few hours, starting to get a feel for console shooting. Very happy with the gameplay, but find myself being outclasses by certain weapons, such as the Duvolle.
Is this just an SP deficit on my part?
People are crying at the moment that the Duvolle is doing a bit too much damage, but yes, the Duvolle tactical assault rifle is a prototype weapon, so it is probably an SP deficit.
Are tanking and gunshipping viable while still being able to do some ground pounding?
Yes, dropping in tanks are really useful for helping the ground troops with taking objectives and decimating the enemy team, they are also really good for destroying enemy tanks. As for dropships, all that they are really used for is transporting troops in the battlefield, and occasionally destroy other dropships and tanks. You don't get much points from being a dropship pilot, so it is recommended that you spec into ground combat aswell.
I am most interested in the Gallente suit, what are some interesting or different things I can do with their mid or light?
I kind of don't want to just run around with an assault rifle for ever, are other choices viable?
If you want to have fun with Gallente light frame suits, try using shotguns. With your low scan profile(how easily you can be detected in the radar) and fast run speed it is really fun sneaking behind enemies and blasting them with shotguns up close. It does require quite a lot of practice to be able to hit your targets and dodge gunfire though(scout suits don't have that much health, so they rely on mobility and stealth to avoid being killed rather than just tanking the hits).
As for medium frame suits, speccing into the logistics speciality would give you two equipment slots, allowing you to support your friends in the battle by reviving/repairing/resupplying them with whatever equipment you decide to pick. And mass drivers on medium frame suits are really fun, if you can learn how to master the firing arc.
Thanks!
